Rebel Wilson makes heartbreaking admission about her difficult childhood with late father
Rebel Wilson has made a heartbreaking admission about how her difficult childhood with her late father Warwick shaped her career.
The Australian actress, 44, admitted on Monday that there was a 'dodginess' within her father, which significantly affected her as a person.
'Why I have certain parts of my personality, and I do comedy, is because my dad had dodginess everywhere,' she told The Diary Of A CEO podcast.
'Alcoholism, addictions and also a mentality that is a bit dodgy. There is a dark side, and if I didn't have that I don't think I would be as interesting as a person.'
Rebel added that she felt many of her famous friends had personalities that were 'bland' as a result of coming from happy, untroubled childhoods.

'I have friends in the industry that had awesome childhoods. To me, they come across as very vanilla in their work. They are just not as interesting.'
In her new memoir Rebel Rising, she opened up about the physical abuse she endured at the hands of her father, including one incident where he threatened to 'choke and throttle' her.
In the book, Rebel recalled her father Warwick, who died in 2013, once had a violent outburst when she begged him to buy her a Slurpee as a 12-year-old.

The pair were in the car with Rebel's sister Liberty when their father lost his temper after they kept asking him to buy them drinks, saying he would 'choke' her if she kept talking.
She wrote: 'He whips around violently like he might actually try to choke me, then and there. He's furious. It's like a switch has flipped.'
The actress recalled another incident during her childhood years when her father allegedly hit her across the face after he thought she had wet the bed.
'Why I have certain parts of my personality, and I do comedy, is because my dad had dodginess everywhere,' she told The Diary Of A CEO podcast. 'Alcoholism, addictions and also a mentality that is a bit dodgy. There is a dark side'
Rebel told how she and Liberty had been dabbing their faces with washcloths in bed to try and cool down on a particularly hot night.
The Bridesmaids star had the idea to wet both their mattresses in the hope it would help them cool down quicker.
But when their father entered their bedroom, he thought the pair had wet their bed and Rebel said he immediately lost his temper and became a 'red-faced giant'.
She wrote: 'He brings his palm up to his cheek and, with the full force of a strong, stocky adult man, hits me as I'm lying there on the wet mattress. Whack. Whack. Whack.'
